THE LYCAN BITE Deliver Blistering Werewolf Fuzz With New EP 'FANGS'
We dig music. We dig heavy music. And when the guys at The Lycan Bite contacted us way back in February to check out their new album “FANGS” we admit we were a bit trepidations. We don’t care for the emo stylings of MCR or AFI and we are super picky when it comes to our punk and metal playlists but upon one listen of this EP, we knew these songs would be in our gym playlist for sure!
The album starts off with a menacing drum beat that builds to a growl of vocals we haven’t heard in sometime. I mean, the bands name is based around werewolves so it better sound rough, edgy, and hairy, right?
The EP is only 6 songs and it totally fits into our attention span.
Hailing from Columbus Ohio, the band is a ragtag group of horror fans with a pension for fuzz. The group labels themselves LycanthRock/Horror Pop/Occulternative and we can hear why with songs like “Rougarou” and “POX”, the group reminds us of early Queens Of The Stone Age. These two songs specifically have a swing feel to them like a huge monster is looming just behind you so it works, and it works well!
We must admit, we’re not fans of sing-songy type bands where they extend their vocals like some type of opera singer in a rock bands disguise(you know who you are) but The Lycan Bite don’t do this. The lead singer delivers a very nice vocal range from low and grumbling to highs that one would hear off of a Stone Temple Pilots album.
We really dig the nods to the spooky throughout this EP and it would make great background music for any Halloween party or BBQ this year.
Short, sweet, and with just the right amount of bite, The Lycan Bite deliver one of the catchiest EP’s this horror fan has heard in a while. Check them out on their Bandcamp and you can’t go wrong with the price point for the E.P. of just $6.66, now that’s a deal even the devil could love.
We hope to hear more from these guys sooner than later, maybe by the next full moon?
