Amazon Aiming To Resurrect The 'POLTERGEIST' Franchise
Most classic horror franchises from the 80s and even 90s have had a resuggence as of late. Halloween, Scream,The Exorcist, the list goes on. One franchise we haven’t heard anything about in ten years in fact is Poltergeist.
So what’s going on with the franchise? Well there was that remake that happened in 2015 which got poo pooed by the horror community. With Amazon acquiring MGM recently, that means that Poltergeist has new owners and they want to bring the franchise back.
During this week’s episode of The Hot Mic, co-hosted by John Rocha, reliable entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider shared what he has heard about Amazon’s plans for Poltergeist, naming the franchise as one of several MGM properties that Amazon is looking to “prioritize.”
Sneider notes that the Poltergeist situation is “complicated by the fact that Spielberg would likely need to be involved.” Spielberg of course produced the original 1982 horror classic.
“All this stuff is so up in the air,” Sneider makes sure to note. “[Amazon is] still figuring out, ‘What do we have here in MGM, what do we want to do with it, and how do we want to do it?'”
We’re sure to hear more soon and will of course bring you the news when it drops.
