Could We Expect More Than Just 2 Seasons For HBO's 'THE LAST OF US?

HBO’s smash hit ‘THE LAST OF US’ has officially been given the go ahead for a second season that will focus on the second game of the franchise but what about a third season? Could that be possible?

Co-creator/showrunner Craig Mazin has suggested in recent months that the HBO series won’t be dragging out the games too much, but it also sounds like it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. During a panel over the weekend (via Deadline), Mazin told the crowd that there’s still “quite a bit of story to tell” in the HBO series. What does that mean, exactly?

Mazin teased, “Our plan is to do it not just for one more season. We should be around for a while.”

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II features more complex storytelling than the first game, so it makes sense that the HBO adaptation may end up spanning more than a single season. The sequel game is essentially split into two parts, one half centered on Ellie and the other on new character Abby, and we could easily see both storylines getting their own seasons.

Meanwhile, “The Last of Us” Season 2 is still at the writing stage at this point in time, so don’t expect the series to return to HBO until sometime in 2024 – at the earliest.

We’ll bring you more news on The Last Of Us as it develops.
