David Gordon Green Details How HALLOWEEN ENDS Will Be A "Very Different Tone" And Have "A Coming Of Age Element."

There’s no doubt that David Gordon Green’s run in the Halloween franchise has its fans and haters. Some love what he’s done, others have dubbed it just “dumb fan service” either way Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills (2021) have proven to be money makers so of course we’re getting one more film, Halloween Ends in October 2022.

The director recently Spoke with the Empire Spoiler Special Podcast (via Indiewire), director David Gordon Green teases a “very different tone.”

“There’s not a lot of games in it, there’s not a lot of wittiness and retro joy,” Gordon Green explains. “It’s kind of a coming-of-age film, and it’s a very different tone. And that’s what excited me about it, is to have the three chapters that I’ve been involved in be very different from each other. They are all there to honor Carpenter, but aren’t necessary just emulating him.”

The filmmaker continues, “I sent Carpenter the new draft of Halloween Ends the other night, and I said, ‘If it feels too ‘Christine,’ let me know.’ For Halloween Ends, it’s just a love of Carpenter, you know. It’s more than just, ‘Hey, here’s a character and a community that you’ve created.’ It’s, ‘Here’s an appreciation of your legendary body of work.’

That Christine reference could mean a lot of things but we’re hoping all good for the next installment in the Halloween franchise.
