Steven Spielberg is taking a step back into sci-fi and re-teaming with David Koepp (Jurassic Park) on an untitled “UFO film based on his own original idea,” and from what we have found out, it looks like Emily Blunt has taken the lead role in the flick thanks to Deadline’s report last night.

Universal will be bringing an untitled “original event film” from Steven Spielberg to theaters on May 15, 2026, which has David Koepp as the writer based on a story by Spielberg.

Deadline notes: The flick is “described as a two-hander, so Emily Blunt would be playing one of the two leads in the project.” Blunt, fresh off an Oscar win for her turn in Oppenheimer, is in early talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s next film at Universal and Amblin. This would mark the first time that Blunt would appear in a Spielberg film.

Plot details remain under tight lock and key, but Variety recently teased that Spielberg will “likely make his next project a UFO film based on his own original idea.” So, it feels safe to predict that this is the aforementioned UFO movie, but we’ve got no confirmation at this time.

Both Koepp and Spielberg know sci-fi and we’re certain the film will give off those classic Spieldberg vibes we know and love.

We’ll bring you more news on this “event movie” when we get them.
