Jennifer Love Hewitt And Freddie Prinze Jr. Returning For 'I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER' Sequel!

The horror genre is getting a lot of nostalgia type flicks as of late. We returned to Haddonfield with Halloween thanks to Blumhouse, SCREAM is back and bigger than ever thanks to Paramount, and now it seems that Sony Pictures is bringing us a brand new sequel to 'I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER’ and alumni actors, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are set to come back!

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) has been brought on board to direct the film.

Deadline reports, “Insiders say the project is still early development and that Neal H. Moritz is in talks to return as producer with Leah McKendrick on board to write the script.”

The site also notes, “While McKendrick is penning the pic, the idea for the new film came from Robinson and McKendrick, who blew studio execs away when they pitched this idea for a sequel last fall especially given the recent success of the Scream franchise.”

It sounds to us like this will be like the ever popular “legacy” style sequel with various legacy characters coming back to pass the torch to some new victims.

The original ‘IKWYDLS’ was released in 1997 and had had two sequels in 1998 and 2006.

In the original flick, “Four young friends bound by a tragic accident are reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.”
