Karl Urban In Final Talks To Play Johnny Cage In 'MORTAL KOMBAT 2'
In case you missed it, news broke late last night that Karl Urban (The Boys) was in final talks to take on the role of Johnny Cage for the upcoming ‘MORTAL KOMBAT’ sequel.
The Wrap reported Karl Urban was in the running for the role and reminds us that “Johnny Cage was introduced in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game in 1992. Johnny Cage is depicted as an action movie star with an extensive martial arts background. He is often characterized as a swashbuckling, Hollywood fighting movie star who places great importance on his image and consistently behaves in a cool manner.”
It would be cool to see and older Johnny Cage who’s looking to revitalize his career and looks to the Mortal Kombat tournament to do just that. We’ll see how this pans out as talks were for WWE’s THE MIZ or even Cody Rhodes to take on the Johnny Cage character for this sequel but Karl Urban would definitely bring some grit to the character we think would work amazingly well.
Simon McQuoid is reportedly back to direct Mortal Kombat 2. Previously reported, Jeremy Slater (“The Exorcist”, “Moon Knight”) is writing the upcoming sequel.
New Line’s first Mortal Kombat movie had a post-credits tease of Johnny Cage making an appearance in the sequel, and we can also expect the actual tournament to begin this time.
