'LABYRINTH' Remake Reportedly In The Works With Mike Flanagan In Talks To Direct

We hear many rumors about upcoming films that usually are just that, rumors. Yet one has come around to us that has made us take note. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Scott Derrickson recently confirmed that a direct sequel to Jim Henson's Labyrinth was still in development, but it sounds like a remake/reboot may also be in the works.

"We never got the script all the way to a place where the studio wanted to make it, but I was very proud of the work that we did on it," Derrickson said in a recent interview.

"And it's a hard, hard project to turn into something commercially viable, because it's so imaginative and surreal that there's no way that it can be done cheaply. And at the same time, it's so daring and different that it is a tough movie for a studio to feel competent that it has enough commercial value to earn a profit. So I think that it's a tough nut to crack, but all I can tell you is I'm very proud of the work that we did on it. We certainly had a great film in mind."

Rumors have started to swirl that Mike Flanagan (The Fall Of The House Of Usher, The House On Haunted Hill) is set to direct the sequel/reboot for TriStar. Again, these are just rumors but stranger things have happened.

There’s no word on who would replace David Bowie as the “Goblin King” but Scott Derrickson said the writers "had a really cool idea." So we’ll see how that pans out.

The 1986 original starred Jennifer Connolly as a teenager named Sarah who enters a strange fantasy realm in an effort to rescue her little brother from Jareth the Goblin King (Bowie). There, she meets some weird and wonderful creatures (Hoggle, Ludo and Sir Didymus) who help her on her quest to reach the King's castle.

We’ll keep you posted as news comes in.
