Actor, writer, and stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard has been cast in the newly reestablished Hammer Studios film, “Doctor Jekyll” for B Good Pictures, Variety is reporting.

The film, which will be a modern interpretation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, will be the first film to be released by the newly formed studio. Back in November of 2021, the U.K.’s Network Distributing cemented a deal with famed British horror label Hammer Films to form Hammer Studios Ltd.

Izzard will play Dr. Nina Jekyll, a recluse who finds kinship with her newly hired help, Rob, played by Scott Chambers (Malevolent, Chicken), and must work together to prevent “Hyde” from destroying her life.

The new film will be a “modern re-telling” of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novella, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”

Variety reports: “Hammer Studios managing director, Tim Beddows, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be partnering with Joe and his superlative cast and crew on ‘Doctor Jekyll.’ There can be few subjects more apt to launch Hammer Studios and the production has everything you’d expect of a modern Hammer film.’”

Stephenson added: “It’s an honor to partner this way with the new Hammer Studios, in doing so Doctor Jekyll becomes both part of a legendary legacy and the start of an exciting future for U.K. genre filmmaking.”

The legendary Hammer Studios is one of the oldest film companies in the world, defining the horror genre in Britain with such classics as Dracula, The Curse of Frankenstein, The Mummy, and many more. They manage and control a vast library of content including, Let Me In (2010), The Woman in Black (2012), and Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter (1972).
