Podcast: "Fear And Beer" Talks 'DESTROY ALL NEIGHBORS' With Writer Charles Pieper
In lieu of the recent new year, we’re adding in some new content to MacabreDaily’s Podcast network with Fear and Beer. Last week, Jamie had the pleasure of interviewing Charles Pieper, writer of the new Shudder Original ‘Destroy All Neighbors.’ Charles also works with animation and stop motion which helped bring a creative angle to this film.
As some of you may know, Nick and I recently reviewed Destroy All Neighbors for our latest #shuddersunday and absolutely had a blast with it. Full circle moment and Charles found one of our clips from the review on Tik Tok and YouTube so I decided to reach out and here we are now! The interview will be exclusively on our YouTube Channel, so make sure to check it out!
With the wild, psychedelic, blood-soaked trip that Destroy All Neighbors is, there was a lot to discuss. From scenes the didn’t make the cut, to the incredible special FX makeup and prosthetics work done by Gabriel Bartalos and Bill Corso, also the dedication that Charles had to this film and the outpoor of positive reviews that have followed.
We also discussed some of the films that inspired Charles to get into writing and directing, and also the reasoning behind the obsession with prog-rock. Fun fact, Destroy All Neighbors has been in the works for over a decade and Shudder snagged it up almost instantly after reading the script.
Film Synopsis: Aspiring prog-rock musician William Brown (Jonah Ray Rodrigues) is determined to finally finish his album. But after Vlad (Alex Winter), the neighbor from hell moves in next door, things take a turn for the worse. During an altercation after William goes to tell Vlad to turn down his blaring EDM music, Vlad gets decapitated by his workout equipment and William decides to dispose of the evidence by chopping his body into pieces. But the story doesn’t end there; Vlad mysteriously comes back to life, parts and all, and begins to follow William and seemingly taunt him for not being able to kill him. William’s reign of terror begins to pile with more “lifeless” bodies and they have unfinished business to take care of.
