If the meek don’t inherit the earth, the ape sure will, and with 20th Century Studios’ upcoming release of ‘KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ just around the corner, it was a must for the film to make an impression at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Check it out below.

As we walked around the outside areas of SDCC this year we saw various studios promoting films and TV as usual, nothing special. Then we saw something that caught our eye, red flags waved above an entrance shrouded in darkness, beckoning us to enter. The tunnel led us to the KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES fan experience. Being huge sci-fi fans and growing up watching the various films in the “Apes” franchise, this had us stoked. The line for the activation wrapped around the building and for a good cause since so many amazing items from the films were found inside. Check out how 20th Century Studios summed it up below.

From The Press Release:

This year at SDCC, fans had multiple opportunities to celebrate Kingdom Of The Planet of The Apes. A huge highlight included the immersive Enter the Forbidden Zone! The Planet of the Apes Experience. Our friends at 20th Century Studios told us that 5,255 fans over 4 days traveled behind the scenes into the past six decades of one of the most popular cinematic franchises. We have some photos for you of the activation where fans saw various costumes, comics, props, and photography celebrating the 10 films in the Planet of the Apes legacy. There were also several opportunities for fans to dive deeper into Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes including immersive stations with the film’s movement coordinator, Alain Gauthier, who taught everyone how to move like an ape and a falconer with a live Harris hawk (named Lola) explored how birds of prey were featured in the movie.

The film had a panel on Thursday of SDCC and from what we have gathered it was a raucous crowd who were eager for more Planet Of The Apes. The film stars and VFX talent had fun with the 1,000-person audience and excited everyone with behind-the-scenes content that brought the movie magic to life. Hosted by Entertainment Weekly’s Gerrad Hall and with stunning previs/postvis videos, fans were able to experience the spectacular ways the fantastical apes and battles came to be.

Thursday’s Panel - 20th Century Studios

We saw many fans cosplaying as Apes from various eras of the film franchise during SDCC and we have it on good authority that the Planet Of The Apes will be here for a long time. 20th Century Studios has done an amazing job revitalizing the fan-favorite franchise and we’re eager to see where the films will go next.

20th Century Studios’ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes arrives on streaming on Hulu on August 2 and also on 4K UHD Blu-Ray and DVD on August 27.
