'SWAMP-THING' Director James Mangold Describes His Upcoming DCU Movie As A "Standalone" Project

James Mangold (Indiana Jones and The Dial Of Destiny) has made a brief comment about his next film SWAMP THING and how it will be viewed in the DCU even though James Gunn may want a franchise for the green goliath.

Talking to Variety, the director shed new light on how he's approaching Swamp-Thing.

"While I’m sure DC views 'Swamp Thing' as a franchise, I would be viewing it as a very simple, clean, Gothic horror movie about this man/monster," Mangold confirmed, revealing he was "toying for years with the idea of making a kind of Frankenstein movie."

Upon learning that Gunn and Safran would be taking charge of the DCU, he "put in a friendly call" to suggest he could develop Swamp-Thing while, "Just doing my own thing with this, just a standalone."

It would be weird if Swamp Thing was indeed a just a standalone flick considering fans have been clamoring for more of the character since the WB put the kibosh on the TV Series but we’ll see what James Gunn and co decide after this flick is completed.
