Universal Halloween Horror Nights Summon Ghostbusters In Its All-New Haunted House “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”

Sony Pictures

When there’s something strange in the backlot of Universal Studios, you know who they call? That’s right fine fiends, the Ghostbusters and today Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood are bringing the Ghostbusters back to Halloween Horror Nights in a brand new haunted house with “GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE” and we have ya locked and loaded with all the info below. Dig it!

As huge Ghostbuster fans, we know Universal does the franchise right and did a bang-up job of recreating the firehouse back in 2019. Now the haunted house that year wasn’t really scary but more of a wonderment of 80s nostalgia wrapped in a Twinkie of puns and lights, but we loved it. Universal pulls no punches when it comes to getting things right for the various IPs they use every year for HHN and we personally know John Murdy (Creative Director for HHN) is a perfectionist so this new haunted house based on the Ghostbusters will be bigger, slimier, and more fun than 2019s version ever was.

From The Press Release:

An ancient artifact unleashes an evil force that threatens to destroy the world in all-new haunted houses, inspired by Sony Pictures’ latest film, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” debuting at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort on Friday, August 30 and at Universal Studios Hollywood on Thursday, September 5.

The all-new “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” haunted houses at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort bring the latest installment of the global Ghostbusters franchise to life as well as iconic ghosts, creatures and characters from the beloved classic series in authentic haunted houses that capture the horror and humor for which the films are known. “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” will transport fans of the film franchise to New York City where the Spengler family teams up with the original Ghostbusters who are now at the helm of a top-secret research lab for their ghost-busting enterprise. With the daunting discovery of an old relic that has set free the vengeful spirit of Garraka, who threatens to freeze everyone to death, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their city and save the world from a second Ice Age.

As guests venture through the haunted houses, they will find themselves in the sinister world of the supernatural, from Ray’s Occult Books shop to the Ghostbuster’s new high-tech lab and containment facility to the dank New York City sewer system. Fans will embark on this petrifying journey alongside the Ghostbusters, encountering iconic ghosts who slime and nefarious villains who are out for revenge – all while trying to escape an army of ghastly creatures bent on cracking bones and turning their veins into rivers of ice. As they navigate their way through freezing and frightening conditions, the Ghostbusters will need their wit and humor to defend the city they love from a terror too chilling to believe.

Just from reading that small tease of the haunted house, we have our proton packs charged and ready to rock! Now stand back and check out this wickedly awesome new promo video for the haunted house below. Watch out for the slime!

Weather-wise, we’re not sure how things in Florida are in October. Still, we do know how hot October can be here in California so that leads us to one conclusion, this maze is gonna be blasted with cold air, AC on full blast, and will be the house to CHILL out in. We love what HHN does with the franchises they get to be featured during its yearly run in the parks and we will for sure be there this year to let you know if they knocked it out of the park again.

We must give a bit of advice/warning to readers, you do NOT wanna sleep on getting tickets for this year’s event. We guarantee many nights will sell out so don’t be left out in the cold without your tickets. We’ve been covering HHN for many years and are veterans when it comes to getting our money’s worth at the park here in Hollywood and we have to say, the Express Pass is a MUST for anyone trying to see all the haunted houses during the event. It may seem like you have tons of time but when those lines reach 2 hours or more in length, you’ll thank me for spending the extra money.
