Upcoming IMAGE COMICS DECEMBER Rundown

Horror, Fantasy and Science Fiction all on the horizon from Image Comics for the end of year. It all kicks off on December 6th, with two titles being released: Our Bones Dust; and Bloodrik. Then on December 13th, we’ll see The Bloody Dozen.

Our Bones Dust is a post-apocalyptic tale split between a curious Artificial Intelligence, poking about the ruin of civilisation, and a feral child trying the survive the nightmare landscape populated by cannibalistic tribes. This four-issue miniseries is brought to us by the Hellboy collaborator Ben Stenbeck. The preview they’ve released shows a lot of promise. Interesting and detailed art, and a good eye for exposition without dialogue. Obviously this will be a tale of mystery and discovery, so it is difficult to get much more of an impression.

At the same time, you will see the start of the three-issue miniseries, Bloodrik, created by Andrew Krahnke. Bloodrik, a skilled hunter, who finds his usual the hunting grounds deserted and is forced to venture into unfamiliar woods as hunger and anger drive him onward. What follows is implied to be a harrowing and violent journey. Though Krahnke has spoken very seriously of his work, “Bloodrik evolved from that simple idea into a story about how we see ourselves and the trouble we can get into when we let the idea of who we think we are dictate how we see the world,” it is however hard to tell from the preview available if this is meant to be a purely dramatic tale or a sardonic parody of Conan and similar sword-and-sorcery epics.

In the week following these releases we will be treated to the next story in The Shrouded College universe. Independent of their first story, Hell to Pay, but building on an overarching narrative, The Bloody Dozen features three down-and-out astronauts tasked with strangest heist: springing a clan of deadly vampires from a space prison orbiting the Sun. Though the previews available look fairly by-the-numbers kind of comic book plotting, the story and potential future of The Shrouded College may be intriguing enough to get plenty of readers on board.

We’ll be looking forward to a weird and bloody Christmas with all of these titles in time for the holidays.
