Blumhouse's EXORCIST Series Goes Full Flanagan!
Sometimes a name is enough to inspire glimmers of hope and confidence for a film series, and it seems that Blumhouse is taking that advice to heart as they head to put Mike Flanagan at the helm of their rebooted Exorcist series. While the news is still preliminary, it can be confirmed via Variety that the director of Midnight Mass is now turning his head (maybe a full 360 degrees) towards the religious horror franchise. Last year, The Exorcist: Believer landed with a thud after a massive $400 million acquisition of the rights (check out our review here). Adding fan favorite Flanagan into the mix is sure to bode well for the buzz, but it does raise questions about the strategy that started as a trilogy and now seems less connected.
From Variety, “’ The Exorcist’ is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe,” Flanagan stated. “Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting.”
We will turn in more updates as they become available!
