Just in time to start pre-ordering, here is the most recent news for upcoming horror releases from Image Comics, for the next few months.

Coming in May is Ain’t No Grave and Haunted Girl

Eisner Award winning writer Skottie Young and Eisner Award nominated artist Jorge Corona reunite for an all-new story titled, Ain’t No Grave.

Ryder put her violent past behind her when she fell in love and became a mother. But that was before she learned it was all going to be taken away. Now she’ll have to pick up her guns once again and ride to kill the one behind the threat. Who just happens to be Death.

This five-issue miniseries is best described as a genre-bending, original macabre Western/Fantasy tale for mature readers—an Unforgiven-style journey through a Guillermo Del Toro-esque lens.

With this creative predigree behind it, it’s looking like a welcome addition to the increasing trend of dark-western genre stories.

Co-writers and father-daughter team Ethan Sacks and Naomi Sacks join forces with fan-favorite artist Marco Lorenzana for an exploration of real-world mental health struggles through a fantastical lens in the upcoming, A Haunted Girl.

Cleo, a 16-year-old adopted Japanese-American is released from hospital while dealing with anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. Trying to return to her old life, she begins encountering an increasingly terrifying succession of ghosts. Is she losing her grip on reality… or is the explanation much, much worse?

The graphic novel will also contain an AFSP guide to suicide prevention resources, as well as a guide from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) on free therapy access options. Both organizations contributed sensitivity reading to ensure the depictions of mental health were authentic.

This ambitious project will join the increasing trend of trying to balance entertainment with respectful mental health representation. It will certainly be interesting if they can pull it off.

In June you can look forward to Plastic: Death & Dolls

The fan-favorite creators Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard return to the Plastic universe with a twisted new tale in the upcoming, Plastic: Death & Dolls. This five-issue miniseries will have readers learn what drove Edwyn to commit his first kill at 10-years-old and how that set him on a blood-soaked path of decapitations, sporks, and dolls on his way to finding the one true love of his life…a sex doll named Virginia.

This prequel story looks like an interesting development of the character of Edwyn, for existing fans, and a good jumping on point for new people curious about this serial killer focused story.

And finally in August there is something for Ed Brubaker fans with Houses of the Unholy

The multiple Eisner Award winning creative duo of bestselling writer Ed Brubaker and superstar artist Sean Phillips will hit shelves once again with their upcoming original graphic novel, Houses of the Unholy.

In this new tale, an FBI agent from the cult crime beat and a woman with a past linked to the Satanic Panic are drawn into a terrifying hunt for an insane killer hiding in the shadows of the underworld.

Ed Brubaker has promised a creepy horror story in the vein of ‘80s Satantic Panic, playing with the demonic tropes of classic horror from Hammer to Carpenter to Stephen King. Which means Brubaker is really playing to his strengths.
