Neve Campbell Chimes In On 'SCREAM 7' Says She Would Potentially Return "Under The Right Circumstances"
As of right now, the future of the SCREAM franchise is in a weird place to say the least. Both Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega have stepped away from the franchise after being the focal characters in both SCREAM 5 and SCREAM 6, not to mention director Christopher Landon exiting the project as well. For all intensive purposes, SCREAM 7 has completely fallen apart behind the scenes, needless to say, and Paramount/Spyglass are scrambling.
Back in November, a report came out that the execs at Paramount might be interested in bringing legacy star Neve Campbell back for one more round with Ghostface but she has a few stipulations before she would be seen back on the big screen in SCREAM 7.
“It’s sad to me that they’re struggling at the moment. I would imagine that the people at the top are spinning a little bit. Trying to make the right decision. I would imagine people want to do the right thing. I would hope,” Campbell tells Indiewire in a new chat this weekend. “I love this franchise. I would hope it doesn’t fall apart.”
When asked if she would ever return, Campbell had this to say: “Given the right circumstances, yes. I made a statement several years ago, and it was the reason I didn’t do [Scream VI] at the time. I just really felt the need to stand up and say that I don’t believe I would’ve been treated that way had I been a man carrying a franchise for 25 years. And that still stands.”
The reason behind Campbell not returning was that the studio didn’t offer her the money she felt she deserved for playing Sidney Prescott. That is for sure one issue that would need to be resolved before she would be involved with SCREAM 7.
Last we heard, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are still on board to write the script, but without a star or even a director, there’s no telling when SCREAM 7 will make a killing at the theater next.
