'SCREAM VI' Directors Talk Neve Campbell's Absence In Upcoming Flick Plus More!

Following yesterday’s release of the Paramount’s teaser trailer for Scream VI, we have a new interview with the directors of the upcoming sequel, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett that dives into Neve Campbell’s absence from the film and more.

In the below image you can also see a brand new image from Entertainment Weekly of the aged Ghostface mask in the new film.

Talking with Entertainment Weekly; “It will all make sense in the context that you see it in the movie,” co-director Tyler Gillett explains. “That was another one of the really interesting risks and creative approaches in this movie. It’s meta in a different way, and the mask very much factors into that.”

“It was not an arbitrary choice,” adds co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin.

Did the new killer get their hands on the original Mask from the first film? That would make sense to us a la Halloween. This would be the logical reason for its appearance to us anyway.

This will be the first film not to feature Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott, with the actress deciding to step away from the role earlier this year after what sounds like a pay dispute.

"We love Neve, and we're huge fans of Sidney Prescott," says Gillett, "but it felt like there's an opportunity to really dig into this new crop of characters, and I think people will be really surprised and pleased with how successfully this movie does that. This movie's been in our lives now for quite a while, but I think that we are still consistently surprised by how rich and how interesting and deep the relationship is between the four of them in this movie."

Jenna Ortega (Tara), Melissa Barrera (Sam), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy) and Mason Gooding (Chad) are all set to return, alongside new recruit Dermot Mulroney and Scream 4 standout Hayden Panettiere as Kirby.

Courteney Cox has also been confirmed to reprise the role of Gale Weathers.

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera ("Sam Carpenter"), Jasmin Savoy Brown ("Mindy Meeks-Martin"), Mason Gooding ("Chad Meeks-Martin"), Jenna Ortega ("Tara Carpenter"), Hayden Panettiere ("Kirby Reed"), and Courtney Cox ("Gale Weathers") return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and Samara Weaving.

Scream VI is set to hit theaters next March.
