The Museum Of Death Set To Resurrect Itself In Hollywood
It seems that spooky fun is a bit hard to come by year round in Los Angeles. The folks behind Dearly Departed Tours closed their doors awhile back and the original Museum Of Death, which was a mainstay for all who dig death and the weird since 2008, came to a close as well.
Yet, just like a zombie that won’t stay dead, The Museum Of Death is resurrecting itself, in of all places, Hollyweird! The news on when the location will officially re-open is still up in the air but the owner hints that its sooner than you think.
The folks over at LAMag caught up with owner JD Healy and he gave an update on the new location and what to expect for fans.
“We’ve been getting 20-25 calls a day,” he says with a smile.
La Mag continues: Before its first Hollywood iteration, the museum was located in a former mortuary in San Diego, having grown out of Healy’s art project about how consumerism takes us from birth to death.
Healy and wife Cathee Shultz first began writing to serial killers — she put down her pen when “Night Stalker” Richard Ramirez asked for a picture of her feet — and then they began collecting death-related pieces (a full-size gallows and a guillotine were early scores) before deciding to show what they had assembled.
“This isn’t a horror museum; the name tells you that,” he insists. “We’re not looking to scare people, because we’re all still learning. We really don’t know anything about death.”
“People who are afraid to die are not living,” he adds.
From artwork drawn by serial killers to the actual bunkbeds used by the Heavens Gate cult, Healy has a very large investment in his business and that will be showcased when this new location opens to the public.
Healy also mentions that they are eager to open a Seattle location sometime soon.
