Forgotten Horror - 5 Christmas Horror Movies You Haven't Seen!
SANTA’S SLAY (2005)
Bill Goldberg plays the devil's son who lost a wager with an angel and was forced to spend 1000 years playing Santa, but now the wager of that time has run out, and good old Santa isn't so joyful anymore. He makes up for lost time and starts to kill people.
Combine the sport of curling, flying bison, Goldberg, strippers and swearing children and old ladies and you have ‘SANTA’S SLAY’. I originally watched this movie to laugh at the entire thing but ended up laughing at all the right moments.
This movie is not meant to be taken seriously in no way at all… its goldberg as santa after all! While the CGI could have seriously benefit from a little more expense it helps the charm in some ways.
You really have to see this movie to believe it…
WIND CHILL (2007)
Two college students share a ride home for the holidays, but when they break down on a deserted stretch of road, they are preyed upon by the ghosts of people who have died there.
'Wind Chill' was released as a breath of fresh air during the SAW era. While it takes its time getting where it wants to be in building both the characters and atmosphere, I enjoyed the twist regarding the relationship between the two leads. The twist is interesting but unfortunately doesn’t feel fully fleshed out. If you’re looking for something a little different, check this one out.. an different approach, decent acting and pretty solid script!
ELVES (1989)
A young woman discovers that she is the focus of an evil Nazi experiment involving selective breeding and summoned elves, an attempt to create a race of supermen. She and two of her friends are trapped in a department store with an elf, and only Dan Haggerty, as the renegade loose-cannon Santa Claus, can save them.
The best thing hands down about this movie is certainly the plot. The acting is horrendous, the elf(yes! there is only one elf involved here) is extremely cheesy and hilarious bad! I didn’t get bored watching this movie purely because the entire thing is so far out that I was intrigued to see what came next!
There are however some problems with this movie, the plot is bizarre and unique but the movie doesn’t do it justice at all and we never really get to see the elf all that much! It feels like a movie talking about the plot of a movie more than an actual film.. But that’s part of why you should see this strange christmas horror movie!
ATM (2012)
On a late night visit to an ATM, three co-workers end up in a desperate fight for their lives when they become trapped by an unknown man.
As a fan of movies like ‘Joy-Ride’ and ‘Panic Room’ this movie has a similar feel while never really getting there. Yes! that is Josh from Drake and Josh by the way. The premise is simple but believable for the most part, the characters are hard to care about with no real backstory.
For much of this movie you will probably sigh at how dumb most the decisions they make are but it does enough to keep you watching until the end. It’s a mid to lower table horror/thriller with some fun elements. Check it out if you’ve never seen it before.
THE CHILDREN (2008)
Elaine and Jonah and their teenage daughter and young son and daughter, come to spend New Year with her sister Chloe and husband Robbie and their two young children at their isolated country home. One by one the children, after apparently being sick, become increasingly malevolent.
This movie does not get anywhere near as much love as it deserves. From the great acting and dialogue to the creepy atmosphere and incredible tension building this movie has it all. The Children avoids most of the horror movie tropes you might expect such as dumb and irrational character decisions and use of the dark for all scary scenes.
The movie takes place against a white christmassy backdrop which works well. The tension is immense from the opening and as regards the backstory we are drip fed just enough to keep the interest at peak levels, while we may never find out the one question you will ask from the start… WHY?! What’s in those woods?
Could you kill your own child in this situation? How would you react? Could your child carry out some of the awful acts in this movie… Make sure to check this one out! A must-watch!!

Jordan von Netzer considers himself to be a horror aficionado, with a particular love for 90's slashers. He enjoys talking about anything that has to do with the entertainment industry. Fun fact, he did his final college Film & Video Studies paper over Alfred Hitchcock and Wes Craven. In 2011, he met Wes at the Scream 4 premiere and got to tell him all about it.
