The Horror Books You Won't Want To Miss In 2024
Happy New Year!
I can’t believe we are halfway through the first month of 2024. This year is set up to be an amazing year for horror readers everywhere. From highly anticipated sequels to indie publishers and debut authors, there are a lot of spooky reads to look forward to this year. Out of the MANY I am looking forward to, I thought I would highlight my top five most anticipated of 2024.
Mark your calendars for when these novels drop and PRE-ORDER! We promise. It helps.
Moon of the Turning Leaves by Waubgeshig Rice - US Release Date: February 27, 2024 (now a available in Canada)
Synopsis…
“12 years after the lights went out, Evan Whiskey and his community of Anishinaabe people have continued to survive in the harsh wilderness of Canada. However, they dream of traveling to the land of their ancestors. Evan forms a group of walkers to walk farther than any of their people have gone before. They must survive the wilderness as well as other survivors.”
Why I’m Excited…
This is the sequel to one of my FAVORITE books, Moon of the Crusted Snow. While this sequel is a standalone novel, I highly suggest familiarizing yourself with the characters. Rice crafts beautiful scenes and incredible characters, all while teaching a lesson and acknowledging the hardships that were forced upon Native Americans.
Kosa by John Durgin - Release Date: May 17, 2024
Synopsis:
“In a secluded mansion hidden away from the outside world, young Kosa lives under the strict and overpowering rule of her enigmatic mother. For Kosa, the rules set by Mother are the guiding principles of her life, shaping her beliefs and actions. She has been sheltered from the truth about the world beyond the confines of their home, conditioned to fear the darkness and malevolence that supposedly lurks outside.”
Why I’m Excited…
This is a highly anticipated debut novel being published by Dark Lit Horror. This will be my first book to read from this publishing company, but after exploring their website, I am eager to dive into more of their content! They offer many free books that I am anxious to explore as well.
Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay - Release Date: Jun 11, 2024
Synopsis…
“A chilling twist on the “cursed film” genre from the bestselling author of The Pallbearers Club and The Cabin at the End of the World. In June 1993, a group of young guerrilla filmmakers spent four weeks making Horror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick. The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big-budget reboot.”
Why I’m Excited…
I LOVE PAUL TREMBLAY! I shout it from the rooftops at least once a day. I will always read anything he writes. My prediction is that it will follow the same format as “A Head Full of Ghosts”, which was about a cursed television show. I am excited to see what he will do with the cursed film genre.
Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman - Release Date: June 25, 2024
Synopsis…
“To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay.”
Why I’m Excited…
This gives me “Coraline” meets “Skinamarink” vibes, and I am ready to be freaked out and more scared of little kids than I already am.
You Like It Darker by Stephen King - Release Date: May 21, 2024
Synopsis:
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to read. King writes to feel “the exhilaration of leaving ordinary day-to-day life behind,” and in You Like It Darker, readers will feel that exhilaration too, again and again.”
Why I’m Excited…
It’s time for our yearly feeding, Stephen! I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into this short story collection. Some of the most memorable of King’s stories come from his collections of short tales of terror - many of which still haunt my nightmares.
Honorable Mention…
These authors have not announced any new books as of the time I am writing this. (Future reader, please tell me they did.) BUT I am hoping to hear of at least new projects in development to give me some hope.
Chandler Baker, whose most recent novel, Cutting Teeth, was a true delight; Grady Hendrix, the man, the myth, the legend, is projected to release a new novel titled Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, and I am hoping he delivers; Darcy Coates, a new favorite author that I will quickly work my way through her collection; and of course, most of all… Gillian Flynn… It’s been 12 years since Gone Girl. Give me something, please!
2024 is the year about quality over quantity. With that being said…this is just the tip of the murderous iceberg on the wonderfully horrifying reads coming to us in 2024.

Jordan von Netzer considers himself to be a horror aficionado, with a particular love for 90's slashers. He enjoys talking about anything that has to do with the entertainment industry. Fun fact, he did his final college Film & Video Studies paper over Alfred Hitchcock and Wes Craven. In 2011, he met Wes at the Scream 4 premiere and got to tell him all about it.
